As of late, I've been spending more money on manga than ever before. Why? Cuz I want to!

I have the newest volumes of both 20th Century Boys and PLUTO, and I am lovin' both of 'em! I wish I didnt need to wait two months for every new book, but I'll be patient. I'll try, at least.

I bought the first volume of Death Note because my sis seemed to be interested in reading it. Unfortunately, I read it. I've read it before, so I know what happens. But I read it so long ago that I forgot some of the little details. I got an incredibly strong desire to read the rest after reading that first volume, so now I'm buying all of them. I only have the first 6 so far. I need to either search for the last 6 at a few stores, or I can order them. I think I'll go with the one that takes less time.

The next series I think I'll collect will probably be Battle Royale. It's been too long since I've read it. I loved that series. It's so bloody and gory and violent that it just makes me smile! Of course, I need money first. That's why I'm looking for a job as we speak. I cant find ANYTHING!! DX

I finally got the first volume of this awesome, awesome, AWESOME series, and I love it!!!!

It was definitely worth waiting for. :D

...

Why are you still here? Do you expect me to say something profound? Well, too bad!

As the release date approaches for one of my favorite manga series ever, I cant help but feel excited. I have been waiting a long time for 20th Century Boys to be released in the US, and the fact that PLUTO will be released simultaneously just makes giddy with joy. (is that how you spell it? "giddy"? Fuck, I dont know)

Anyway, I'll probably post something as soon as they are released. Or not. Depends on the circumstances, I guess.

Manga! 01/07/2009

On an impromptu trip to Ralph's Comic Corner today, I ended up buying volume 18 of Monster. :D

This is amusing to me, mostly because the only other volume I own of this series is #2. I have yet to buy the rest. I've been broke. XP

Oh well. I'll have money soon. I just know it. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the final volume of one of my favorite series' ever.

Still nothin 12/09/2008

I have yet to find something I find worth reading. I gotta start reading random stuff, just to keep myself occupied. If I don't, I think I'll go insane!!

Still two more months before 20th Century Boys and Pluto are released. That's a long time to wait! I'll already be going to school again by then! I might not have time to read them!! DX

Oh, well. Guess I'll go watch some TV or something.

What to read... 12/02/2008

I really havent made up my mind yet on what manga I'll read next. I'm thinking about starting Berserk, but I'd also like to finish reading Battle Royale. I'm still collecting Monster, but I'm waiting for my order to arrive.

When I went to Barnes & Noble last week, I saw some other manga I'd really like to read. I don't remember any of the names, so I'll have to go again to write them down. There are so many that I can't possibly afford to buy them all!

Now that I have collected and read the entire series, I feel I can say that this is a great read for anyone who likes manga. Horror, suspense, and drama are  mixed together into an amazing story that, once read, stays with you forever.

While I believe the ending was perfect and the only one that could have worked, it also left me hanging. Some of my questions were left unanswered, which left me emotionally drained. Still, Im glad I read it. Now it sits on my shelf, waiting, begging to be read again. I might just take it up on that.

There are many stories that claim to be "horror," but only a few that seriously get it right. Umezu's classic is one of them, using fear and panic as a propulsive force throughout this volume. The truly terrifying thing about Drifting Classroom isn't the dire situation, but how the victims react to it. Students and teachers alike turn against each other, committing acts of violence that remind us of the thin line between civilization and chaos. When someone draws blood in this story, it doesn't just hurt at the physical level; it's psychological, too. Shadowy, heavily-inked artwork adds to the oppressive mood, especially with Umezu's depiction of the alien wasteland. But even with that intense detail, the straightforward layouts move the story along quickly, delivering shock after emotional shock. - Carlos Santos, ANN

Monster 10/23/2008

Naoki Urasawa's masterpiece, Monster, is simply one of the greatest suspense thriller manga to be released in a very long time.

"Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a young Japanese doctor working at the Eisler Memorial Hospital in Düsseldorf during the 80s. A highly accomplished brain surgeon, he appears to have everything on his plate: a promotion in the offing; the favor of the director of the hospital, Heinemann; and Heinemann's daughter, Eva, as his fiancée. However, Tenma grows increasingly dissatisfied with the political bias of the hospital for treating patients, and seizes his chance to change things after a strange massacre brings the twins Johan and Anna Liebert into his hospital. Johan has a gunshot wound to the head and Anna is in shock and keeps muttering about killing. Tenma decides to operate on Johan instead of a prominent politician who arrived afterwards. Johan is saved, but the politician dies. Tenma loses all his social standing and Eva as a consequence. However, Heinemann and other doctors in Tenma's way are mysteriously murdered, and both children disappear from the hospital soon after. The police suspect Tenma, as he benefits greatly from this turn of events, but they have no evidence, and so can do no more than question him."

At this point, the story advances to nine years later. Tenma is now the Chief of Surgery at Eisler Memorial Hospital. However, he is about to come face to face with a sociopath - a sociopath that he helped save.

A known criminal is found on the street, hit by a car. He comes under the care of Dr. Tenma, who observes him muttering about a "Monster". Tenma extends kindness to that criminal, and thus the criminal begins to open up for Tenma. Then one evening when Dr. Tenma comes back with a clock as a gift for the criminal, he finds the guard in front of the criminal's room dead, and the criminal himself gone.

Following his trail to the construction site of a half finished building near the hospital, he finds the man. The man, who has developed a sort of doctor-patient friendship with Dr. Tenma, warns him against coming closer, and pleads with him to run away. Tenma refuses, however, and the identity of the man holding the gun pointed at the criminal in the abandoned parking garage is revealed to be the boy whose life Tenma had saved nine years ago - Johan Liebert. Despite Dr. Tenma's attempt to reason with him, Johan shoots the criminal, tells Tenma that he could never kill the man who had saved his life, and then walks off into the night while Tenma is still too shocked to stop him."

The rest of the story is an incredible tale of mystery, psychology and murder, as Dr. tenma tries to hunt down Johan, with the help of a few people he meets on the way. I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves a good mystery, or that loves manga.
